Alexander Deane (born
1979) (commonly known as Alex) qualified at City University as a
barrister, and begun pupillage (training) in October 2005.
This means he is not yet a tenant of Chambers and has limited rights of audience.
In his three gap years between university and beginning his career, he worked for the
UK Conservative Party as a
Chief of Staff, assisting former MP
Tim Collins and
David Cameron MP (who has subsequently been elected leader of the Conservative Party.
He is a graduate of the
University of Cambridge and a former Research Fellow of the London-based
Think Tank,
Policy Exchange.
His has written two books,
The Great Abdication (published in
2005, about the
middle class) and
Off with their Wigs (published in
2003 and co-written by
Charles Banner).
These were published in small print runs and have had limited success, having been purchased by only three public libraries worldwide (two in the UK and one in the USA).
Deane now concentrates on publishing his works on his own homepage and various related blogs.
Whilst a student he was also a winner of the
World Universities Debating Championship.
He was awarded Honorary Life Membership of the
Durham Union Society, a student debating society.
