Farnerud made his professional debuts for Landskrona BoIS, scoring in one of his first top flight matches, a 2-1 home win against then reigning champions Hammarby IF.[1]
In November 2003, he was bought by France's Racing Club de Strasbourg,[2]being an automatic first-choice in his two 1/2-season spell. In his first and third seasons, Farnerud played alongside older brother Pontus, whom was first loaned by AS Monaco FC, then acquired.[3]
Upon Strasbourg 2006 relegation, Farnerud moved to VfB Stuttgart in Germany, on a four-year deal.[4]He was used sporadically during the course of two seasons, appearing nine times for the 2007 league champions.
On 8 July 2008, Farnerud signed with Brøndby IF.[5]
A Swedish U21 international since he was 18, Farnerud made his senior debut in 2003.
