Allen Schwenk was a mathematician who wrote a paper titled Which Rectangular Chessboards Have a Knight's Tour? in 1991. This paper answered many questions about knight's tours, and appeared in the Mathematics Magazine, Vol. 64, No. 5 (Dec., 1991), pp. 325-332. His theorem can be found on the Knight's Tour page.
