<b>Almamy Wane</b>, better known as <b>Almamy,</b> is a
senegalese-born
electronic dance/pop singer, songwriter and producer based in
New york city.
History
Born in
1982 in
Dakar,
Senegal, Almamy started out as a dancer and actor in his early teens, performing locally until he won a scholarship to study and dance professionaly in
Paris in the late nineties.
After relocating to
New York in 2002, to study at the famed
Broadway Dance Center, Almamy found himself immersed in the club scene, writing songs and collaborating with various
dance music record producers, such as Peter McLean (D1 Music), Mike Degen (
RuPaul,
Heavy D), and Seren Ame.
A couple of years later, Almamy decided to launched a career as a solo recording artist.
Working with guitarist
Nick Holmes as a co-producer, Almamy started to record his own material and strove to create a sound of his own.
Career
In
2007 Almamy set up his own record label,
ModyWorks to release a serie of recordings.
The first of which was a Twin EPs project,
The Sexy Boy EP /...
B.M.D., and
The Sexy Boy EP /...
L.Y.D.
that was available on
iTunes on
January 3,
2008.
It featured material that was initially released on his
MySpace page, where he had built up a large fan base, through
SNOCAP.
It was followed by a remix collection of his most popular song,
Like You Do, two weeks later.
The double A-side single
Don't Ask Me / French Kiss is to be released sometimes in
July 2008.
