Introduction

Alpine Mist Morgan Horse Farm was established by Forest and Traci Stanley in the small tourist town of McCall Idaho. The farm is twenty acres located just outside of town and is inbetween the Little Ski Hill and Brundage Mountain. Alpine Mist Horse Farm was one of the first morgan farms to advertise their horses on sites such as YouTube, Bebo, and MySpace.

Marketing

Back in 2001 the Alpine Mist owners did have a major problem with trying to advertise for their website. Sales where up and down and but by establishing their own niche they have figured out to successfully compete with many other morgan horse breeders and find their plateau of success. They have found that by creating video of their animals, it increases sales drastically. A video example can be found here.

Established

Horses

Alpine Mist Morgan Horse Farm sells a variety of morgans. Due to the fact that morgan horses are such a versitile breed, Alpine Mist breeds their horses for casual riding, showing, driving, hunting, etc.

The horse farm is rare in the sense that they have been able to produce, on a very regular basis, dun horses. With nine dun horses on their land, that is quite the acomplishment.

Colors

Dun:

Dun horses have a sandy/yellow to reddish/brown coat. Their legs are usually darker than their body and sometimes have faint "zebra" stripes on them. Dun horses always have a "dorsal" stripe, which is a dark stripe down the middle of their back. Sometimes the dorsal stripe continues down the horse's dock and tail, and through the mane. Many dun colored horses also have face masking, which makes the horse's nose and sometimes the rest of the face a darker color than the horse's body.

Bay:

Bay is a color of the hair coats of horses, characterized by a body color of dark red (known as blood bay) to deep brown, with black points (mane, tail, lower legs, and sometimes the muzzle and tip of the ears). Bay is a favorite color among ranchers and horse enthusiasts.

Chestnut:

Chestnut is a color of horse, consisting of a red or brownish coat, with a mane and tail the same or lighter in color than the coat.

Dunalino:

e two photos below are of a filly whose color is popularly called "dunalino." A dunalino horse has inherited the genes for red dun and palomino; their genotype is CcD-ee. Since different genes cause these two colors, it is possible for a horse to inherit both types. This filly does have primitive markings, although you can't see them in these pictures, and her legs are a darker shade than her body color, as befits her red dun genes. But her body is a gold color and her mane and tail are white, as befits a palomino. Any palomino with primitive markings can be called a dunalino, but breed registries will call them palominos.
