Amanda Merrill (born May 9, 1951, in Amesbury, Massachusetts) is a Democratic first-term member of the New Hampshire Senate from Durham, who took office in 2008.[1] She represents Senate District 21, which comprises Dover, Durham, Epping, Lee, and Rollinsford. Merrill serves on the Education; Election Law and Veteran's Affairs; Energy, Environment and Economic Development; and Wildlife, Fish and Game and Agriculture committees in the Senate.[2]

Education

Merrill attended public schools in South Hampton and Hampton, New Hampshire, graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1974, and received a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College in 1978.[1] She taught psychology in the Massachusetts university system and worked as program associate in the undergraduate research program at UNH.[2]

Career

Merrill served in the New Hampshire House from 1989-98, including a term as Deputy Democratic Leader, and was a House policy staff member during the 2007-08 biennium.[2]

Her community and non-profit service has included membership on the Durham Planning Board and the boards of the UNH Alumni Association, the Audubon Society of New Hampshire, and the Granite State Conservation Voters Alliance.[3] She also worked as visual arts coordinator for the Mill Pond Center for the Arts.[2]

Family

Merrill has lived in Durham for over 30 years with her husband Ken Fuld, a long-time UNH faculty member currently serving as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts.[2]

They have two children, Anna and Sam Fuld, a major league outfielder for the Chicago Cubs.
