The fictional series A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (id est, Daniel Handler) is teeming with secrets, and many of these secrets exist in peoples' names. This article discusses the names and initials of various characters. For the most famous of Snicket's initials, see V.F.D.

Initials

The J.S. initials were introduced in The Penultimate Peril, along with K.S. and L.S.

J. S. can stand for:

:* Jerome Squalor, Esmé Squalor's husband.
:* Justice Strauss, a member of the High Court.
:* Jacques Snicket, Lemony Snicket's brother.
:* Jerome D. Salinger, the real author of the story For Esmé — With Love and Squalor.
:* Julio Sham, also called (variously) Captain Sham, Captain S., Julio, and just plain J., which was one of Olaf's disguises.
:* Jacob Snicket, Lemony's father.

L. S. can stand for:

Loney M.
Setnick.

:* Lemony Snicket.
:* Lucky Smells Lumbermill.
:* Loney M. Setnick, the fictional author of The Littlest Elf (a fictional novel) and The Luckiest Kids in the World: The Pony Party!

Some other L. S. possibilities include:

:* The Little Snicket Lad, a fictional folk song.
:* Little Sebald Lad — a character from the fictional plays The World is Quiet Here, by Linda Rhaldeen, and One Last Warning to Those Who Try to Stand in My Way, by Al Funcoot.
:* latch string, from, "Our latch string is hanging out for true friends old and new..."

Another suggestion has been the initials C.S., although these have not been varified to have any importance:

:* Carmelita Spats
:* Café Salmonella, a café that appears in several of the novels.
:* Charles Snicket, Lemony Snicket's paternal grandfather.
:* Surprising Chicken Salad.
:* Captain Sham.
