Amelia McVeigh (born
March 15,
1989) is a
gymnastics athlete (rhythmic gymnastics) from
Croydon,
New South Wales,
Australia.
Born
in
Caringbah,
New South
Wales, as a child she had always been involved in a large
variety of sports, later continuing into only
Rhythmic
Gymnastics and
Athletics. Amelia started recreational gymnastics
at 8 years of age in
1997, as
an after school activity to do at her first school,
SCEGGS, Darlinghurst. She later moved
to the
Presbyterian Ladies'
College, Sydney with Nicole Higham, who selected her as
upcoming rhythmic gymnast. She competed at her first Nationals in
1999 placing 8th, but the next
year she improved her ranking to 2nd place in stage 3, and
eventually taking out the field placing 1st in stage 4 at the age
of 13.
She has always been ranked at the top, and has been
chosen for many international competitions and tours, going to
countries such as
New Zealand,
Malaysia,
England,
Germany,
Portugal,
Japan,
the United States,
Canada and
Azerbaijan, and competing in such prestigious
competitions as Youth Olympics and World Championships. Amelia
recently changed coaches and schools from Nicole Higham to Danielle
Leray
Meriden Gymnastics.
Amelia's athletic
career only took of in
2004
when she made it NSW All Schools. She was chosen also in
2005 but was unable to attend
due to Gymnastics commitments.
