Amelia and Michael is Daniel Cormack's directorial debut short film, produced by Daniel Cormack and Matt Gunner for Actaeon Films and Executive Produced by Richard L. Johns. The film stars Anthony Head and Natasha Powell and explores the themes of love, loss, materialism and fidelity.

The film was made with the help of a funding award from the David Lean Foundation. On the basis of a rough cut alone, the film was shortlisted for the Akira Kurosawa Memorial Short Film Prize in Japan, the only UK entry to be shortlisted.

Critical reaction ==

The film was reviewed in Hotdog Magazine which said: "This short is beautifully shot, gently taking its time to unfold, and the presence of stage and screen veteran Anthony Head really raises the bar a notch: on this evidence, Daniel Cormack is a young director to watch. <ref>Hilditch, Greg (2007). Hotdog, Issue 83, p. 120. SMD Publishing Ltd. ISSN 14709260.</ref> " A further review on Shooting People said: "[T]his is quality stuff, great performances, a script that doesn't go too far, beautiful photography and, in the midst of what could be very soapy, a real sense of cinema. It felt very European, like one of those films in which Daniel Auteil and Juliette Binoche fall in love and break up, one of those films that somehow, as a rule, we can't do in this country. With this well cast, well acted, well made film Daniel Cormack seems therefore to be breaking all the rules without breaking sweat or showing off. <ref> </ref> "
