The American Centrist Party (ACP)
was founded by Matthew J. Unger in 2004. The ACP website is
www.americancentristparty.com. The ACP has grown
by leaps and bounds since its founding. The ACP has gained national
exposure on radio shows and also on several Centrist minded
websites. Currently the American Centrist Party has a national
committee and state committees in California, Connecticut, Maine,
Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont , Rhode Island,
Wisconsin, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana and Florida. Several
members of the party are in the process of planning on running for
local office in the near future. The American Centrist Party is
dedicated to empowering the average American Citizen through a more
responsive and responsible governments, education, and
security.
Centrist Quotes
"We stand in the
presence of an awakened nation, impatient of partisan
make-believe."
—Woodrow Wilson
"I was no party man myself, and
the first wish of my heart was, if parties did exist, to reconcile
them."
—George Washington
"When we put aside partisanship,
embrace the best ideas regardless of where they come from and work
for principled compromise, we can move America not left or right,
but forward."
—Bill Clinton
"Neither party should be defined
by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the
agents of intolerance, whether they be Louis Farrakhan or Al
Sharpton on the left, or Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell on the
right."
—Senator John McCain
Goals of the
ACP
The goal of the American Centrist Party is to
reform the US government to the point where the government is
serving the Peoples' Will. The federal government must be
responsible to as well as responsive to the Will of the People.
When the needs of the People meet the needs of the federal
government, the country as a whole becomes more prosperous and
stable. In short, neither the government nor the People should be
made to feel that they are giving more than they are
receiving.
The ACP is committed to a policy of inclusion, so
long as those who hold political views which lean to either end of
the spectrum are tolerant of others who may not agree with those
beliefs. The purpose of the ACP is to bind ALL Americans together
in an effort to make our country a better place.
1.) Organize
and establish committees in each of the 50 states and the District
of Columbia
2.) Select ACP candidates for state and federal
offices.
3.) Assemble enough petitions in each state to get the
ACP on the ballot, or at least register the ACP as "Write-In"
candidates.
4.) Stay vigilant and energized.
5.) Work with
like minded 3rd parties to bring a new voice to American
politics
6.) Community service in our communites to help make
America a better place to live and to show Americans that the ACP
cares about the community always not just during election
years.

Independent Auditing of the
Federal Government and Budget===
This would be used to
see what about the federal government is working like it should and
is costing what it should. If there needs to be reform done, we
will do it.
===Taxpayers Bill of Rights for the Federal
Government
Balanced Budget
Statute
Sensible Tax Reform===: States will
be the only customers for the IRS. You pay tax once to your home
state and it forwards tax due to the federal government to them and
local tax to the local government it is due to. This will make it
easier on the average Americans to have to go to one source in case
their is a problem and this will shrink the size of the
IRS.
===Credit Information
Reform
Health Care Reform===:
The ACP proposes to institute a national healthcare program which
would provide basic healthcare (preventative care as well) to all
Americans, especially children. The costs of this program would be
shared among the states of the Union, as it would benefit all
Americans.
===Reign in the FCC
Remove
indecency fines and support free speech
Finish the
Mission in Iraq and Afghanistan
The ACP believes that
US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan must remain in place in order to
finish the job that they began shortly after 9/11/01. To pull the
troops out now would mean a collapse in both of those countries,
allowing our enemies (extremist Islamicists, aka terrorists) to
freely operate in those regions. This scenario would mean more and
deadlier attacks on our nation and our interests abroad.
Military Salary Increase and Rebuilding/Refurbishing
of Military Base Housing
Veterans
Issues
The ACP unconditionally supports all American
veterans of any armed conflict. It is shameful how American
veterans are treated after they have served their country.
After Vietnam, veterans bore the brunt of the backlash from the
political fallout. The US government denied and continues to deny
any connection between several physical and genetic ailments and
exposure to Agent Orange. This travesty must end! The ACP proposes
that Vietnam veterans (and their dependents) who have been in
contact with Agent Orange be re-interviewed and new studies
conducted. Veterans with Agent Orange connected ailments will be
treated as needed at government treatment centers.
After the
1991 Gulf War, the US government (again) denied and continues to
deny any knowledge of the cause of many illnesses of those who
fought in the KTO and may have had contact with chemical weapons.
This was a sham with the Agent Orange issue and is a sham with
"Gulf War Syndrome." The ACP proposes that the US Military conduct
comprehensive empirical studies of the reported illnesses, and
begin treating all Gulf War veterans reporting Gulf War
illnesses.
Additionally, the ACP proposes a comprehensive review
and audit of all VA hospitals and treatment centers in order to
make them fully able to treat any and all American veterans. There
can be no less.
Border Security
Use
assets of the military to help secure our borders, review
immigration laws, Increase spending on border security. Effective
policies and enforcement must be supported with the right resources
and quantities of resources. These resources include physical
barriers, electronic sensing devices, helicopters, UAV aircraft,
patrols, and any/all appropriate assets that can help accomplish
the mission. Establishment of immigration centers on the border
where immigrants can go to get their immigration process started
immediately.
Local Disaster
Preparedness
The threat of terrorist activity in the
United States has increased since 9/11/01. The threats of nuclear,
biological, and chemical attack have been building and continue to
grow each day. The US government has only begun to prepare the
first responders of the largest metropolitan areas, and even now
those first responders are still under-prepared for a real attack.
The huge metropolitan areas are indeed critical to the national
security, but these measures do not protect the great majority of
the American people. Even small towns need to have adequately
trained and equipped first responders, because terrorism knows no
boundary.
The training of first responders must come from federal
trainers from the federal government and/or the military. These
training teams will cross the nation, preparing first responders to
deal with large-scale crises, from chemical leaks to nuclear
detonation. First response equipment will be supplied by the
federal government, thus standardizing crisis management and
procedures.Local civil defense teams will be organized in order to
both assist first responders and law enforcement to maintain order
and assure local infrastructure. These teams can also be augmented
by the state's National Guard if available.ACP believes that EVERY
American deserves to be protected; not just those who live in major
metropolitan areas.

How the ACP
operates
Currently the American Centrist Party is
working on a national constitution which will continue to guide the
party into the future. Several state committees such as Virginia
and North Carolina already have approved state constitutions.
One
of the main things that seperate the ACP from other national
parties is the fact that the official members of the ACP are the
ones who vote on policy not the national comittee or delegates.
Every member of the ACP has an equal vote and voice in the policies
and stances of the party. Votes are conducted on the ACP Forum and
are open to all official members. The current national committee
leadership consists of Matthew J. Unger as chairman, Andrew D.
Evans as vice-chairman, and secretary George Nelson, Jr.
