The American Orthodox Catholic Church is an Autonomous and
Autocephalous Catholic Church not in communion with the Patriarch
of Constantinople. Founded in the 1960's by the Late Archbishop
Walter Propheta, this church was created in order to bring about a
uniquely American Branch of Orthodoxy. However, After St.
Propheta's death, the church splintered. The effects of the
splinter can still be seen today with the many different churches
claiming to be the continuation of the original American Orthodox
Catholic Church.
