The American Physiological Society (APS) was founded in 1887 and has 10,500 members[citation needed], most of whom hold doctoral degrees in medicine, in physiology or in other health professions. APS's mission is to support research, education, and circulation of information in the physiological sciences.

It publishes the American Journal of Physiology.
