The American Sleep Association (ASA) is a society in the USA whose objectives are to increase awareness of the importance of sleep health and the impact of sleep disorders in the community.
Established in 2002 by volunteer sleep physicians, scientists, and technologists, the ASA conducts several public awareness events each year dedicated to improving sleep awareness.
Membership is open to physicians, scientists, technologists, sleep disorder patients, and the general public.
C. Everett Koop, M.D., Sc.D., former U.S. Surgeon General, is one the ASA's most famous supporters. His interest in the obesity epidemic in the U.S. involves the impact of obstructive sleep apnea and its consequences.
