Pimagedine, also known as aminoguanidine, is an investigational drug for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy.[1] Pimagedine is a diamine oxidase and nitric oxide synthase inhibitor. It acts to reduce levels of advanced glycation end products.

Aminoguanidines and their salts are also being explored for use is energetic compositions, particularly high specific impulse, low signature solid rocket propellants. They can also be used as precursors for experimental explosives such as tetrazole derivatives
