Amongst is an alternative to Among, used mainly in British English.
It is known for following the same rules Amidst, and Whilst.
History
It is believed that -st prepositions, and conjunctions arose mainly due to a mistake in which someone added a T to the end of the genitive form of the word to mimic superlatives such as Greatest.
