Amora is a Portuguese city and freguesia, located in the municipality of Seixal, Setúbal District. It had a 2001 population of 50,991 inhabitants and a total area of 27.31 km²; its density was 1,867.1/km².

Information and History

Amora is situated in the banks of Rio Judeu, a tributary of the Tejo. The locality is noted for its sea-based industry notably navy repairs and construction, fishing and other industries.

The parish was first mentioned in 1384 in the Chronicles of John I, a work of Fernão Lopes. From this period apparently dates the first population settlement in the area, wich was located in Cheira Ventos, in the present day area of Talaminhos. The parish bacame a town on 30 June 1989 and a city on 20 May 1993.

Sporting club

Amora hosts several sporting events per year, namely most of the events of Seixalíada (multi-sports event involving thousands of participants), International Cross country of Amora, 24 hours non-stop swimming (in the city's municipal swimming arena) and the athletics' nationals (in the municipal track and field's stadium Carla Sacramento).
