Anahí Giovanna Puente Portilla, better known as Anahí (Spanish pronunciation: [anaˈi]), (born May 14, 1983), is a Mexican actress and singer. She began her career as a child participating in several television series and movies, several of which earned her awards such as the Ariel Award and from the Palme d'Or Award.[1] She gained international fame after being cast as Mia Colucci in the hit Mexican telenovela Rebelde, and as a member of the Latin Grammy-nominated pop group RBD.

Early life

Anahí Giovanna Puente Portilla was born on May 14, 1983 [2], to Enrique Puente and Marichelo Portilla.[3] She has one sister named Marichelo, and a niece named Ana Paula. When she was a child she was the face of a well-known soft drink brand and recorded a song called "Te doy un besito" which was played at the end of a children's daily programming on Channel 5 in Mexico.[3]

Acting career

At the age of 2, Anahí began her career on a Mexican television program called Chiquilladas. She then starred in numerous films such as Nacidos para Morir and Había una vez una Estrella.[3]

She then went on to star in several telenovelas, including Mujer casos de la vida real, Hora Mercada, Vivo por Elena, and La Telaraña. [3]

In 2002 she was cast as Jessica in Clase 406 where she worked alongside Alfonso Herrera, Dulce María, and Christian Chávez, who later became her bandmates in RBD.

In 2004 she starred in Rebelde, a Mexican remake of the hit Argentine novela, Rebelde Way. Before Rebelde, Anahí had starred in Ángeles sin paraíso with Felipe Colombo, star of Rebelde Way. On Rebelde, Anahí portrayed Mia Colucci, a popular girl from a wealthy family. Rebelde was a hit worldwide and had over 400 episodes, lasting from 2004–2006.

Following the success of Rebelde, in 2007, Televisa released RBD: La Familia, which starred the members of RBD. The sitcom was based on the fictional lives of the members of RBD. The characters of the sitcom were not based on the band's characters in Rebelde, but intended to be similar to the actors' real personalities. RBD: La Familia was the first Mexican show shot entirely in High Definition. The show ran from March 14, 2007 – June 13, 2007, and only lasted 13 episodes.

In March 2009, Anahí auditioned for the lead role in Sortilegio, a novela starring William Levy. The producers decided against Anahí and gave the part to Jacqueline Bracamontes instead.[4][5][6]

She might return to the television in the series Mujeres Asesinas in late 2010, along former RBD member Maite Perroni.

Music career

In 1996 she released her first album titled Anahí. She later released a second album titled Hoy es mañana which featured the singles Descontrolándote and Corazón de bombón. She went on to record two additional albums titled Anclado en mi Corazón and Baby Blue.

The success of Anahí's novela Rebelde launched RBD. To date, RBD has made 9 studio albums, including albums in Spanish, Portuguese and English. They have sold over 15 million albums worldwide, and have toured across Mexico, South America, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania, the United States, and Spain.

In 2006, following the success of RBD, Anahí re-released her solo album, Baby Blue, under the name Una Rebelde en Solitario.

On August 15, 2008, RBD released a message telling fans that they had decided to split up. They went on one final tour, Gira Del Adios World Tour which ended in early 2009.

On November 25, 2008, Anahi and Dulce Maria collaborated with Tiziano Ferro on a song called "El Regalo Màs Grande".

In April 2009, Anahí launched an official website and twitter page announcing her solo album which will be out on November 24, 2009.[7][8]

She debuted her first solo single since RBD, titled "Mi Delirio," at the 2009 Premios Juventud in Miami, Florida.[9] It was released for digital download on August 18, 2009. She later held 10 concerts as part of the Anahí Promo Tour to promote the single and album.

Her first solo album since RBD, Mi Delirio was released on November 24, 2009.

Personal life

Before starring on Rebelde, Anahí battled a serious eating disorder.[10] At her lowest point, she weighed approximately 75 pounds, was in and out of five different treatment centers, and had been sent to several different doctors and psychologists around Mexico. One day after returning from a family vacation, she began to feel faint, and was rushed to a hospital, where her heart stopped for eight seconds.[11] In 2008, with the support of Televisa, Anahí launched a campaign for Anorexia-Bulimia awareness.[12]

In 2006, Anahí opened her own clothing store in Mexico City, called Anahi World.[13]

In 2007, a Barbie Doll version of Anahí was released, based on her character in Rebelde.[14] erika valladares Anahí and co-star Christopher Uckermann, had a brief romance during the filming of Rebelde, but split after 10 months.[15][16]

In 2006, the tax administration of Mexico froze four of Anahí's bank accounts as a preventative measure because they believed the actress was involved in tax fraud. In 2008, after taking the issue to court, Anahí was granted her accounts back, two with Banamex and two at Scotiabank.[17]

In November 2008, after a concert in Venezuela, fans snuck into Anahí's hotel room with a videocamera after she had checked out. While in the room they discovered that Anahí had left numerous bags of fan gifts, cards, and letters. The video circulated the internet quickly, leaving fans extremely upset. Anahí later released a statement apologizing.[18][19]

In April 2009, after a year of dating and rumors of a wedding, Anahí and her boyfriend Rodrigo Ruíz de Teresa, a nightclub owner, split up.[20] Less than a month after her split with Rodrigo Ruíz de Teresa, Mexican magazine Nueva published personal photos of Anahí with her new boyfriend.[21]
