Formation of Ancient Machine
The time at which Brock, Ciarlo, and Kilgore joined as a band starts back in the early college years of Brock and Kilgore at Duke University.
They met and quickly became friends.
Kilgore was the member of the Pulsar Triyo, which gained great popularity at Duke University.
Performances included appearances with
Bela Fleck, and others.
At the point at which they graduated, they planned to move to New York with the hopes to meet a keyboardist.
Shortly before Brock and Kilgore moved to New York, they came in contact with Cristiaan Ciarlo in early
February, who posted an ad on
craigslist, and was looking to start a band with a
Pink Floyd influence.
They really had the same plans regarding the direction of their music.
At that point in time, they came to meet and play in mid march.
They met up and jammed out for hours in a
New York studio.
It was then, that they all realized that their musical compatibility really had potential.
After leaving his band in pursuit of forming a band with Brock and Kilgore, Cristiaan met with them in their Brooklyn apartment.
They quickly hit it off and started planning on finding a drummer to complete the group.
Cristiaan asked the drummer he was working with before (Kyle Salvatore), and they performed the band called
The Secret Room.Their first gig occurred on the night of April 13th, 2007, on Cristiaan Ciarlo's birthday.
The performance was a success.
Later on, conflicts of interest lead to kyle leaving the band.
At that point, Brock, Ciarlo, and Kilgore decided to go at it on their own.
One night they were planning out their musical future, the band name Ancient Machine was established.
According to Ciarlo, it was a representation of their duality as a musical entity, on one side, encompassing pure progression, and on the other encompassing pure repitition.
It was also stated that it was a representation of the direction of the human race, regarding totalitarian power, and the cold, consistent and careless actions of the human race.
They planned their second gig with high hopes of displaying their true sound.
They recruited the drummer of their prevoius band and peformed on September 1st, 2007.
The performance was an enormous success.
With their plans for expanding their sound and expanding the their influence, they are planning for upcoming performances throughout
Brooklyn.
