Andre Bernold was born on
March 1 1958 in
Colmar,
France.
He was considered a very bright student from a young age.
He later became a student at the very prestigious "Ecole Normal Superieur" in
Paris.
His brother later joined him in Paris, as a flute student
at the
Paris Conservatory.
Phillipe Bernold went on to be a well known flutist, preforming the world over, and earning the
Jean Pierre Rampal award.
At the ENS Andre met his future wife
Andrea Tarnowski.
After attending the ENS, Andre stayed in a Paris with Andrea a exchange student from Amherst (and later Yale).
While in Paris Andre was good friends with great Philosopher
Gilles Deluze and playwrite
Samuel Beckett.
He later wrote a book on his friendship with Beckett (L'amite de Beckett,
1993, Hermann) and with Deluze (Deluze Epars,
2004, Hermann) Andre moved to the
United States for a while, teaching at
Bennington College and
Dartmouth College where Andrea is still teaching.
He left in
1999 and returned to France in
Lyon where he now works for the
CNED.
His only son was born in 1993.
