Her first television role was as Alice Tyler on the hit series Simon & Simon. She then revisited the role for three episodes on the short lived series Whiz Kids. This led to numerous guest appearances on popular shows such as Silver Spoons with teen heart throb Rick Schroder. She then got her big break, landing the role of Lynn Tanner on the hit show ALF.
Elson married TV producer Scott Hopper (whom she met while working on the ALF sitcom) in 1993 at the age of 24, and gave birth to daughter Claire in 1997. Elson suffered from bulimia during the second and fourth seasons of ALF. "I was this skinny little twig when I started, and then I started to get breasts, hips, and full lips and I didn't like it". Husband Scott Hopper finally confronted her about her bulimia and while she did not seek professional help she said she "became healthy when I was pregnant in 1997." Though in an interview with Who Weekly she admitted to continued struggles with eating disorders, with her weight fluctuating by up to 60 pounds. In early 2000, she complained about being referred to as "fat ass" or "lard butt".[1]
