Andrea Leon was born and raised in Sydney, Australia to an Ecuadoran father and Uruguayan mother.[1] She spent her formative years traveling between Australia, South America and Canada with her family. While in Ecuador, she won several beauty pageants. However, at the age of six her parents were forced to leave the country as political refugees and moved to Toronto, where she began studying at the Young People's Theater. Upon her return to Australia, Andrea enrolled at the Actors College in Sydney where she studied under famed acting coach Sandra Lee Patterson and acclaimed actor John Noble (star of Fox's Fringe). Shortly thereafter, she signed with Australian manager Ursula Hufnagl[1] of Australia's Top Model fame to represent her in Oz. Upon moving to New York, she studied with noted acting coach Austin Pendleton at HB Studios and performed in several plays including the lead role in Mary Queen of Scots. She also modeled extensively during this time, serving as the Australian face for such brands as Chanel No. 5 and Omega watches.
Her television credits include Young Lions (Channel 7/Australia), All Saints (Channel 9/Australia) and La Ley del silencio (Telemundo). Her feature film credits include Man-Thing (Marvel/Lionsgate), Hood of Horror (Lionsgate), Tell-Tale (Genius/Vivendi), Dylan's Wake and 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (First Look). She has also appeared in such short films as Tropfest winner Cha Chi Pun, Hooked and Bluff, as well as such local Australian films as Cracking On and Postcard Bandit.
She is also featured in the book Another Time Past Created[2] from heralded Australian photographer Brett Hilder[3]. She had previously worked with Hilder on a series of photo essays about revolutionary photography Tina Modotti.
In 2007, while preparing for a role in New York with legendary trainer Greg Ardon (who had previously trained Hilary Swank for her Academy Award winning turn in Million Dollar Baby), Andrea fell in love with the sport of boxing and went on to become a quarter finalist in the New York City Golden Gloves[4]. She retired from her amateur boxing career shortly thereafter at the behest of her agents and manager.
She is currently the spokesperson the popular Australian fashion designer, Susie Mooratoff[5], whom she is also currently developing a health, fitness and beauty line with entitled No Fat Chicks.
Previously modeled under the name Xoqui Pesce, which is a combination of her mother's maiden name and an alternate spelling of the Aztec legend Quetzalcoatl, the god of learning and knowledge.
