Andreas Thom (born 7 September 1965 in Rüdersdorf, Germany) is a former German football player who was capped by East Germany, and later Germany. He is now assistant manager at Holstein Kiel, working under Falko Götz.

Club career

Thom played for BFC Dynamo, winning the DDR-Oberliga in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988, and the GDR cup in 1988 and 1989. In 1988 he was the top scorer and also the East German Footballer of the Year. In 1990, for a transfer fee of 2.5 million Deutsche Mark, he moved to Bayer Leverkusen. Until 2000, he played for Leverkusen (161 Bundesliga matches, 37 goals), Hertha BSC (51 Bundesliga matches, 5 goals), and from 1995 to 1997, Celtic in Glasgow, Scotland, for a then club record fee of £2.2million.

International career

Thom played for the East Germany national football team between 1984 and 1990, making 51 appearances and scoring 16 goals. After the reunification of Germany, he played for the unified team in 10 matches and scoring 2 goals.
