Andrena R. Hale, Magic Tortise Ink
Andrena R. Hale has been a trailblazing under-the-radar staple of the entertainment industry for nearly fifteen years. A native of Southfield, Michigan Andrena migrated to New York City after being accepted into the under graduate film program at the prestigious School of Visual Arts. There, Andrena’s concentration was in Screenwriting but upon entering the workforce, her professional journey dipped various corners and avenues before she would return to her first love of writing.

By the time Andrena reached her mid twenties, she found herself the premier Directors Rep in music video production with the now defunct Riviera Films. Her client roster was comprised of some of the most respected visual artists of the 90’s including Gus Van Sant, Roman Coppola, and Fab 5 Freddy. Aside from working with name talent, she championed the careers of lesser known directors wrangling in projects with high profile recording artists in the urban arena. And as a result of her constant networking within the music industry, Andrena transitioned into music producer management under the umbrella of her own company – Big Plans Entertainment.

Big Plans became the hub for the choicest music makers in Hip Hop and R&B providing career management services for the Grammy award winning producer Rockwilder, the iconic Hip Hop production team of Da Beatminerz, and Trackmasters affiliated producer Frank Nitty. The word of Andrena’s success with BP Entertainment became widespread, opening up an opportunity for her to join the management arm at Sean Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment where she served as Director of Producer Management for nearly two years.

In 2000 Andrena transitioned once again as a burgeoning screenwriter then later as Associate Producer of Special Projects at Woodie King Jr.’s legendary New Federal Theatre where she fell in love with the stage and the art of playwrighting. In 2002 she wrote, directed, and produced the one-act play entitled With Certain Regrets which opened for one night only to a packed standing room audience at Joseph Papp’s Joe’s Pub and starred Andre Royo, Yolonda Ross, Mums, and Michael Williams. With Certain Regrets was invited to compete in the Samuel French Short Play Festival in 2003 where it advanced to the finals, and its sequel – With Certain Regrets Pt. II: Nick Parker, directed by Tracey Moore-Marable – competed at the short play festival in 2004. Also in 2004, With Certain Regrets enjoyed a popular, short-lived run at the Henry Street Settlement Playhouse in New York City. That same year Andrena’s ten minute show I Do starring Andre Royo was staged at the famed Ensemble Studio Theatre as part of the company’s Going to the River: A Celebration of African-American Women Playwrights festival series.

Late in 2006, Andrena optioned her first feature length screenplay then her second screenplay was picked up for option in early 2007. She continues to script out the stories of her imagination while collaborating with her producing partners on a number of forthcoming television and film projects.
