Career

Hurley joined Fall Out Boy in 2003 after their debut album Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend. Fall Out Boy is the fourth band Andy has been in with Pete Wentz.

Hurley was also in Racetraitor, Killtheslavemaster, Project Rocket, xFor Death or Gloryx, The Kill Pill, and Arma Angelus.[1] In 1999, he was a guest drummer on Vegan Reich's "Jihad" EP.[2]

Hurley has a record label, Fuck City, which has released music by Misery Signals, Peregrine (led by anarcho-primitivist writer Kevin Tucker), and Auryn.[3][4]

Personal life

Hurley was brought up by his mother, who worked as a nurse; his father died when he was five.[1] Hurley attended University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, double-majoring in anthropology and history.[5] He identifies himself as an anarcho-primitivist, explaining that this means he believes that humans are supposed to live the way they lived prior to 10,000 years ago.[6] When confronted about this in the February 2007 issue of Alternative Press, he said that his career contradicted his beliefs, but at the same time, he had to make a living. Hurley is also vegan and straight edge.[1]

Andy Hurley and Fall Out Boy band mate Joe Trohman have joined a band with members of Anthrax and Every Time I Die. The band is called "the Dammed Things".[7]

Andy Hurley's house in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was featured in an episode of MTV Cribs. He also loves comic books and he still currently holds his first drum set from C&C Custom Drums along with his very own custom drumsticks from Vic Firth.

  • Ultimately I am an employee of a corporation, and that’s weird, and does contradict some of the things I believe in. But at the same time, I have to make a living.
  • Music would probably go. A lot of art would. That’s what I’m saying – I’m really into comics and movies and video games, and I don’t want to give that stuff up. At the same time, I think it’s filling the void for the stuff we’re missing.
    • On if rock bands would ruin civilization
  • My whole thing is I’m not into civilization as a whole. The only actual solution is the eventual collapse and demise of civilization . . .I think it needs to happen, but no one, not even me, really wants it to happen.

  • I just like not having a dependency on other forms of life. I like having a compassionate way of life. I am into a lot of human rights stuff and whatever I think, it is important for me to follow through with my diet and the way I live.
  • I think that in the confines of civilization being vegan is a really positive thing to do because it has less of an impact on the earth. But, ultimately, it’s not going to solve anything because it’s still dependent on the system of agriculture, which I think the problem is inherently.
  • Go vegan because you want to change something in yourself or in the world and then do more. Eating a certain way isn’t enough; we have to do something about the world we live in. Anyone who wants to be vegan or cares about the earth or the life on earth should read a book called Endgame, Volume 1: The Problem of Civilization

  • I'm in Good Charlotte. I have tattoos so I was cool for them.

  • What people don't realize about Pete is that Pete's always been Pete. People only see one side of him, and I think the press magnifies some things that people would see as negative, maybe too cocky or something? They think that's because of our success as a band. If you see anything cocky about Pete, that's Pete.
    • On Pete Wentz
  • I’m still this vegan straight-edge kid from Milwaukee who hates America, hates white people, and hates all this shit as much as I ever have.
  • Yes, I am known to hula hoop like a mother fucker wouldn't know.
  • For Christmas this year, get your kids lots of Nikes and lots of socks...so they don't end up like me.
  • There you have it folks...Fall Out Boy is cool
  • It's Cool
  • I just wanna be James Bond someday.
  • I want a cookie in my future(:
