Annee pai gaee, sometimes also abbreviated as just apg, is a commonly used greeting exchanged among members of subcontinental populations that are now settled in parts of Europe, mainly in Germany.

Annee pai gaee literally means "Blindness/Darkness occurred". The true connotation can be understood by analogy with the terms "Blind Rage" or "Blind Fury" which signify extremity. The particular usage of "annee pae gaee" can therefore be in cases as varied as intense surprise, intense sorrow, intense happiness, intense corruption, ... anything intense.

Used frequently as a slang for "surprise" or just "for fun". As an example, if two people meet accidentally at the bus stop, then "Anee pai gaee" will be one of the first pleasantries to be exchanged, signalling the idea "surprised to see you". As another example, after reading this description of apg at Wikipedia, someone might have uttered somewhere in the back of his/her mind ...Anee pai gaee.

While it is used in a number of sub-continental languages and dialects, the phrase itself has its origins in Punjabi, which is the most commonly used language in the province of Punjab, on both sides of the Indo-Pak border.
