After performing a set of promotional shows at The Pearl Concert Theater, rumors circulated in the media of Carey's forthcoming arena tour. In December 2009, the tour was official announced by Carey's official website and Twitter page, under the title "Angels' Advocate Tour".[2][3] The name is linked to a song from her recent album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, "Angels Cry" which will be remixed to feature Ne-Yo and will be released whilst Carey is on tour. This was her first concert tour since her The Adventures of Mimi Tour in 2006. Dates were only slated for the U.S. and Canada.[4] However, Carey was hoping to visit the UK and Australia later this year.
A proposed concert for February 16, 2010 at Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis was canceled, since no promoter was found to promote the concert.[9][10]

Critical reception to the tour has been generally positive, with most reviewers praising Carey's vocals and the stage production as a whole [23][24]. The set design and set list have also been praised, in particular he mix of Love Hangover/Heartbreaker and her performances of We Belong Together and Hero.[25] Her time keeping has come in for some criticism at certain dates, while others felt that there were too many costume changes throughout the show. [26] In general however, most critics surmised that this tour was better than her The Adventures of Mimi Tour four years earlier and was one of her best tours in quite some time.
