Angidi Verriah Chettiar{அங்கிடி செட்டியார்) ,a Tamil man born in 16 March 1920 in Mauritius has been the Vice President of Mauritius since 2007. He previously held the position from 1997 to 2002. He became president in 2002 when Cassam Uteem resigned. However, Chettiar also resigned after refusing to sign a controversial anti-terrorism bill, saying that the bill was discriminatory against Muslims. The line of succession then tipped the presidency to Supreme Court Justice Ariranga Pillay. Angidi Chettiar was nominated to succeed Cassam Uteem and eventually became President after the departure of his precedent colleague. His stay at the State House was short lived of 3 days when he himself resigned as President 5 days after he was sworn to power. He was succeeded by Karl Hoffman .In 2007 ,he sent his nomination back for Presidency once again but was rather elected Vice President .Another attempt of becoming the head of state was made by him in September 2008 following the end of Sir Anerood Jugnauth's first mandate as President. He was defeated in Parliamentary vote and Jugnauth became President once more for a second mandate.Chettiar is still Vice President of Mauritius.
Mr .Chettiar was the shortest Serving President of Mauritius having been President for only 3 days .
