Anhui University, the key comprehensive provincial institution, is located in Hefei, the capital city of the Anhui Province. Founded in 1928 in Anqing, named 'National Anhui University' in 1946 and moved to Hefei in 1958, Anhui University is now a well developed tertiary institution supported by the government under the State 211 Project(Project 211 is a constructive project of nearly 100 universities and disciplines in the 21st century conducted by the government of the People's Republic of China. The project aims at cultivating high-level talents for national economic and social development strategies). The university currently has approximately 26,994 students and 2500 staff including 1522 faculty members. Consisting of 14 college & faculties, Anhui University's broard-based education covers philosophy, economics, law, literature, history, science, engineering and management to prepare students for all aspects of the working world. Holding the Motto 'honest, resolute, erudite, discreet',Anhui University has provided higher education in fundamental knowledge, professional skills, social responsibility and innovative concepts for over 170,000 students in the past 80 years.Additionally, the university hosted the 7th Forum for Presidents from Asian Universities in the year of it's 80th anniversary.

Anhui University was established in 1928 in Anqing. It was relocated to Hefei in 1958. Since its founding, the university has been designated as a 211 Project university. Anhui University has been a key provincial university in Anhui province since then.


Anhui university has 4 campuses now. The main campus covers an area of about 55 hectares, two branch campuses 30 hectares and the new campus near 200 hectares.


The university library has a collection of more than 2.7 million holdings and over 9000 Chinese and foreign periodicals. It has two libraries in both main campus and the new campus

Department Structure

Anhui University consists of 18 schools, 44 departments, 65 undergraduate programs, 119 master degree programs, 16 PH.D. programs, and 1 Post-doctorate research flow work station, 4 professional master degree programs, and 2 state-level disciplines, 12 provincial-level disciplines. The University has a staff of 2399, of which 210 are professors and 490 associate professors. The student population totals 28143 including 6466 are mature aged students.[1]

International Exchange

The university is actively participates with international exchange and cooperation. It has agreements with 74 overseas universities. the university has accepted foreign students since 1980. It is approved by the Ministry of Education to enroll international students who have received Chinese government’s scholarships. It was designated by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the State Council the Teaching Base for Chinese Language and Culture in 2000. there has been up to 700 international students from Asia, American and Europe who have been studying at Anhui University.[1]
