Anne Firth Murray is a New Zealand author, professor, and nonprofit founder.

Murray is the founder of the Global Fund for Women, the largest non-profit organization in the world exclusively funding women's human rights. She founded the organization in 1987 and continued to act as president until 1996[1], at which point the fund was administering USD $33 million per year in grants.[2] In 2005, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.[3]

Murray previously led philanthrophic efforts for the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation from 1978 to 1987. Prior to that she was a writer at the United Nations and an editor at the Oxford University Press, Stanford University Press, and Yale University Press.[1]

Murray is the author of two books: Paradigm Found: Leading and Managing for Positive Change and From Outrage to Courage: Women Taking Action for Health and Justice.

Murray is a consulting professor of biology at Stanford University.[3] She is a board member or advisor to several organizations, including the African Women's Development Fund, the Hesperian Foundation, the Global Justice Center, TeachAIDS, GRACE, and UNNITI.

Anne Firth Murray, a New Zealander, was educated at the University of California and New York University in economics, political science, and public administration, with a focus on international health policy and women's reproductive health. She has worked at the United Nations as a writer, taught in Hong Kong and Singapore, and spent several years as an editor with Oxford, Stanford, and Yale University presses.

For the past twenty-five years, she has worked in the field of philanthropy, serving as a consultant to many foundations. From 1978 to the end of 1987, she directed the environment and international population programs of the Hewlett Foundation in California. She is the Founding President of The Global Fund for Women, which provides funds internationally to seed, strengthen, and link groups committed to women's well being. Currently, she is a scholar/activist at the Union Institute and a Consulting Professor in Human Biology at Stanford University.

Murray serves on several boards and councils of non-profit organizations, including the African Women’s Development Fund, Commonweal, GRACE (a group working on HIV/AIDS in East Africa), Hesperian Foundation, and UNNITI (a women's foundation in India). She is the recipient of many awards and honors for her work on women’s health and philanthropy, and in 2005 she was nominated as one of a group of 1,000 women for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Her book, Paradigm Found: Leading and Managing for Positive Change, is published by New World Library.
