Anope is an IRCservices package based on the
Epona IRC services package
(Anope gets its name from spelling Epona
backwards).
History
Anope began as a simple bug fix for
Epona when the author of that package stopped supporting
it for a while beginning in 2002. It later took on a life of its own and evolved
many of its own features, including most importantly MySQL support and a modular core.
NickServ is used for recording,
protecting and managing your IRC nicknames.
ChanServ is used for recording, protecting and
managing your IRC channels.
MemoServ is used
for sending and receiving messages, even when the target user is
offline.
HostServ makes it possible to the
users to record and use a vhost so as to mask their real
ip/hostname on IRC.
BotServ places a
representation of ChanServ in a registered channel, making it
possible to carry out certain commands which are not possible with
ChanServ.
OperServ is reserved for usage by
administrators. It is used to manage the other IRC Services.
DevNull simply ignores any and all messages sent
to it.
