e-tailer best known for its technology furniture®.
Anthro is privately owned and is
ISO 9001 certified. The name Anthro is derived from
the word
anthropomorphic which means the attribution
of uniquely human characteristics and qualities to inanimate
objects.
History
Anthro was founded in 1984 as a wholly
owned subsidiary of
Tektronix, and became an independent company in
1988. The company shares its beginnings with the rise of the
personal
computer. The furniture Anthro manufactures in its facility is

Products
Anthro offers over 550
standard furniture products, with five separate furniture
families.
These are: <br>
• Fit System – A configurable
line of furniture with many choices in accessories. <br>

AnthroBench – A strong line of furniture designed to hold extremely
heavy equipment.
• AnthroCart – Anthro’s original line – a simple
cart that can be configured many ways.
• Elevate – A line of
Electric Lift Tables (ELT) whose surfaces can raise and lower and
tilt with the touch of a button
• “Unique Solutions” – Products
designed for specific purposes such as an advanced workstation for
radiologists.
New Products
Anthro regularly introduces new products to the market,
particularly when there is a niche to fill. In November 2004,
Anthro introduced the Power Supply Cart, a heavy-duty mobile cart
with integrated rechargeable cordless power. In May 2005, Anthro
introduced Carl’s Table®, an integrated workstation with electric
lift features and automatically adapting lighting. In November
2005, Anthro introduced eNook™, a wall-mounted workstation that
serves as a charging and storage station for small electronics like
cell phones,
PDAs and
laptops.
Manufacturing
Anthro designs and manufactures
almost every product they sell. Currently there is an in-house team
of nine designers, who design and prototype inside the
manufacturing plant. The plant itself includes
fabrication ,
powder
coating, panel processing, packaging and shipping.
Customer Relations
Anthro is well known for outstanding
quality and exceptional service. All of their products are
supported by a lifetime warranty. And Anthro offers a 100-day Risk
Free Promise so that customers are free to return any product
they aren’t satisfied with.
Most orders are sent out of their
manufacturing facility within three days. In 2006, 67% of their
customers had previously purchased from Anthro.
Employee
Relations
Customer service representatives receive over 200 hours
of training before they begin to field calls and 30 hours every
year after. Sales staff apprentice as trainees for approximately 8
months before being assigned a sales territory.
Oregon Business
Magazine has named Anthro on of the "100 Best Companies to Work for
in Oregon" for five times in the past 10 years. This annual
evaluation, in which all Oregon-based businesses are invited to
participate, is a two-part survey. The survey consists of
evaluations by both management and by the employees, and considers
organizational communication, benefits, attraction/retention,
rewards and recognition, working environment and performance
management. An independent panel of judges reviewed the responses
and determined the final rankings.

eNook™ received the
“Gold Award” in the “Alternative Office” category in the Best of
NeoCon® Competition in 2006.
iCart II™ received the “Silver
Award” in the “Alternative Office” category in the Best of NeoCon®
Competition in 2003.
The Laptop Storage Cart received the “Most
Innovative Product Award” in the Best of NeoCon® Competition in
2002.
