The Antiwikipedia is a
website that, as its name suggests, is in many ways the complete
oposite of Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopedia. There are no rules, no authority, no supervision, no
alphabetical order.It's not meant to
actually be any source of knowledge or reference. The whole point
is that anyone and everyone can pass by and add anything they want,
edit anything they want, destroy anything they want, even
spam.(However, people seem to edit out
spamming first hand).
In other ways the Antiwikipedia is similar
to Wikipedia: it is free, and anyone can contribute by editing any
article that is available or creating new ones. However, you don't have to be a registered user to have
any special privileges.; everyone has the same level of
authority.
The name does not imply an inimical stance with
respect to Wikipedia, but just a difference in principles.
The
following is the introductory paragraph found at the
Antiwikipedia's main page:
:Hi everyone! The Antiwikipedia was originally created as a basis
for free form artistic expression, web design, link sharing, and
ending history by open sourcing all technology.Join a postpostmodern art movement while working to
bring about a post-Hegelian dialectic.Feel free to
contribute!
Antiwikipedia calls its
articles meme.Which is a single unit of cultural
expression.However, since this concept
has not been officialy established, a single entry its still called
"article".
Login page and New User page
There is a Login
and New user link and once you try to "become a user" it shows you
a banner in red letters saying "you fucked up". The meaning and
purpose of the page is unsure, however; a quick look at the page
source reveals that the page is just a dummy front.
Creating
articles
Articles are classified in "domains".Each domain is titled after two extremes. The
available domains are : Order/Chaos , Love/Hate and
Beauty/Abomination. If a user feels that his article doesn't fit
any of these domains, the user can also create a new domain for
everyone to use.
One significant differences between Wikipedia
and the Antiwikipedia is the complete freedom to use HTML code.Users
can literally create a webpage from scratch in an article, provided
that they have mastered HTML.
New Picture link
There is
no available information on how to use this feature. When trying to add a picture it shows you an error
message.There is a collection of
pictures available on the side panel under the menu, but it's
unknown how to add pictures to this collection.
The
Antiwikipedia software
It's obvious AntiWikipedia is not using
the Wiki software made by the Wiki project. They use basic HTML input and CCS language just like a
message board would use. This gives room
for numerous glitches.
Server downtime
The site is being
hosted by not one but several servers in different sites that do
not seem to be related to Antiwikipedia in their
content.(e.g., the picture collection is
hosted by a site called "Harley Davison trader"). What this means
is that the site itself is not handled as an official site but
rather a hobby, letting the site collapse several times a day, thus
giving some downtime.
