Anton Irv (1886–April 27, 1919) was an Estonian military officer during the World War I and Estonian War of Independence.[1] Along with Karl Parts, he was the leader of Estonian armored trains. Anton Irv died in battle of Egle, Latvia.
Before World War I, Irv worked as a teacher.
In World War I, he served in the Imperial Russian Army. In battles he showed much courage and he was decorated with all four degrees of the Cross of St. George. In 1915, Irv was promoted to Captain and company leader. After World War I he came to Estonia, to help assemble Estonian military forces for fighting against Soviet Army. Irv became the battalion leader in I Estonian Regiment but later he helped organize Estonian armored trains and after Karl Parts was wounded in hospital, Irv became the leader of Estonian armored trains.
After pushing Russians out of Estonian territory, Estonian Army began to fight against the Landeswehr. Anton Irv died in the battle against Germans in Latvia. There is a monument dedicated to Irv.
