Bance is on the left of the party - what she
calls "the Labour wing of the Labour Party" - and opposed the Iraq
war.
In the 2005 election in Oxford West & Abingdon, she
received 8,725 votes (16.6% of the total), down slightly from the
17.7% received by the previous Labour candidate in 2001. Labour
remained in third place in this constituency, which is Liberal
Democrat-held.
