Apernit Singh was born in a small town Gwalior in Madya Pradesh and
had his first brush with music by playing the harmonica. Right from
then, he knew he was destined to be a musician. After years of
directionless wanderings and relentless pursuit of his dream, he
realized that the guitar was his wand through which he could cast
his spell of magical and captivating music.
Having very
supportive parents who encouraged him all along the way, Apernit
initially started playing the
harmonica for the school band and they progressed
to the choir. Feeling something amiss, he used to gaze at his
friends playing the keyboard and the guitar. It was love at first
sight when he laid his eyes on the guitar and his parents got him
one at the tender age of 7 and is a 5 Grade Eligible Guitarist.
Apernit has trained vocal skills in
Hindustani classical music. The
initial obstacles of the teacher staying on the other side of town
and his school teacher not paying attention did not deter his
confidence and commitment. Apernit overcame those obstacles by
“home schooling” himself, reading books on playing the guitar and
practicing relentlessly for long hours till he perfected the
art.
He initially played along with his brother and a couple of
friends, Raju on Octopad, Viswas on the Casio and his very first
student, Chintoo who also happens to be his biggest fan. Till date
he fondly remembers those days wherein they used to play for hours
and find an output for their pent-up creativity. Apernit never
really concentrated on his studies; his concentration was solely
dedicated to his guitar and the occasional cricket match.
Practicing untiringly for hours he got as comfortable as possible
with his first love. Having a good grasping power, he used to
listen to various genres of music, observe keenly people playing
live and on the television and played them again and again till he
perfected it. These were long times of turmoil and frustration, he
longed for a teacher to mould him and hone his skill, to identify
this raw and burning talent, to scrape away the unwanted and
perfect him Sadly, there was none but that did not stop him or make
him lose sight of his goal, he trudged along playing, observing,
learning till he got better and better.
Apernit then moved to
Bangalore a place
that nurtured an environment for him to grow and explore his
potential. Chance made him meet his mentor, Saket Jalan who
identified the untapped and raw talent that lay within this
promising and creative individual. Saket, with the undeniable
presence of Siddharth Patwa motivated, coached and guided Apernit
with the skills to come closer to his destiny. Apernit felt a sense
of security with Saket and Siddharth around and this enabled him to
try harder, tap into his unexplored creativity, perfected his stage
skills and realized the vision of the person he was trying to be
for so many years.
PIONEERZ
People say and know for a fact that
Apernit can play the
guitar really fast and for long hours, this does not
impress him because he truly feels that music is an extension of
ones creativity and strongly believes that music can convert
expressions to long lasting memories. He is influenced by Joe
Satriani, Michale Angelo, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen, to name
a few but he does not want to restrict himself, he loves to
experiment with his music and always plays his music straight from
his heart. Sometime in the future he wants to play alongside with
Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and if possible in G3. Apernit does not
want to be known only as the fastest guitarist, it’s all in the
satisfaction he gets from playing his music and plans on opening a
school for music whereby he will be able to provide the long time.
