Architectonic installation is a an art form mixing architecture with other disciplines of art. The term was first used of the works of Architect Office Casagrande & Rintala (Landscape) (1998-2003) mixing environmental art and performance art with architecture and landscape architecture. The big scale architectonic installations of Casagrande & Rintala gained wide international recognition and was awarded by the Architectural Review's Emerging Architeture 2nd Prize 1999, with judge Massimilliano Fuksas commenting the works as a new way of architecture and later proposing the Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale 2000 for the architects. Both architects Sami Rintala and Marco Casagrande are continuously producing architectonic installations. Casagrande has widen the interdisciplinary theory of the architectonic installations into environmental urban planning and urban acupuncture.
