After
Nami
steals their ship, the Going Merry Go, Zoro and Usopp,
and later Luffy and Sanji (along with Johnny and Yosaku) set after her
and wind up on Cocoyashi Island, Nami's hometown ruled by the
tyranical merman,
Arlong. It is here that
Nami's past and true motives come to light.
The Arlong arc
begins with the end of the Baratie Arc, starting off when Nami
leaves the Going Merry Go and takes the treasure the Straw Hat
Pirates have collected so far. After the battle with Hawkeye
Mihawk, Luffy and the other Straw Hat Pirates follow Nami back to
her hometown of Cocoyashi Island.
It is here that we learn the
truth of Nami's past through her older sister, Nojiko. After learning of
this, Luffy leaves to fight Arlong and make sure that Nami is free.
All of the Straw Hat Pirates follow suit, and the Arc ends with
Arlong's death at the hands of Luffy and a bounty of 30 Million
Berries being placed on Luffy's head.
