This band is not together anymore so it is not a promotional article. It is merely a record of what was once an influential band in the hardcore, punkrock scene of Newcastle Australia

ARMS REACH formed in early 1997 in Newcastle, NSW with members coming from other local hardcore punk bands such as Pitfall, Anomie and Stolen Youth. In the beginning there were two singers and two guitarists, who both happened to be girls. Their music wasn't unique; "straight-up", fast and crunching, downtuned guitars.
They were often labelled "straight edge" inspired hardcore. In reality, they held quite diverse ideals, personal politics and lifestyles.

The original lineup parted ways in early 1998 after releasing a split demo with Found My Direction and a split 7" with Canberra's Forward Defence. By the end of 98, early 99, they had evolved into a more brutal sounding band with a stronger political focus. By this stage Ben Davies had replaced Jamie Hay on bass, and they released an 8 song 7" called "Within Our Reach" and another split 7", this time with Scalplock from the UK, which both came out on Sydney based Shortfuse Records.

2000 saw yet more bass changes, with Ben moving away from Newcastle. This occured at the same time as the release of their full length cd titled, "Death To Shallow Hardcore", which was totally self funded and self released.

Their influences range from: His Hero Is Gone, Infest, Buried Alive, Price Of Silence, Ringworm, Fallout, Born Against to Minor Threat, Spitboy, Los Crudos, Sepultura, Sick of it All, Siege, Massappeal
