ArtGrounds is a popular online art community that was conceived in February 2005 after an older PaintChatApp site (ThJ's Paintchat) was outgrown by its user base.

ArtGrounds aims to give any artist the opportunity to gain exposure by exhibiting their artwork. The site serves as a meeting place for people who share an interest in arts and crafts, and receives 75,000 hits a day. ArtGrounds serves over 4,500 users and over 10,300 submissions as of November 2006.

Sketcher rooms

ArtGrounds is notable among public online galleries in having several Sketcher paint chat rooms openly available to its users. The Sketcher rooms are the main attraction of the web site, and create a unique learning environment for beginners.

A real-time IM system called ArtGrounds Messenger.

Watching another user to receive a message when that user submits new artwork.

Showing of appreciation for a picture by adding it to a list of favorite pictures.

Admin picks, where the site admins pick out their favorite pictures for the front page.
