Artcontext is a collaborative net art venue headed up by
American artist Andy Deck. A typical work involves anonymous
visitors to the site in the creation of images which are then immediately incorporated into
the site for others to see. Deck's work examines the division of
creativity between artist,
code, and the public. Several of his works, such as
Glyphiti (2001—) and
OpenStudio (1999) offer
time-lapse visualizations as a way of perceiving the contributions
made by the public, good and bad. Other prominent themes include
militarism,
intellectual property, expressive
freedom, social software, anti-corporatepolitics, and collaboration.
