Ash Brannon is an Academy Award nominated director, writer and animator who worked on Pixar's first feature length animated film, Toy Story. He was co-director on the sequel, Toy Story 2 and also helmed the animated film, Surf's Up, which garnered him an Oscar nomination.
Brannon started out at Walt Disney Feature Animation as an animation trainee for The Little Mermaid. He then joined Warner Bros. Feature Animation as an animator for That's The Warner Bros.!. He also worked at Pixar's Animation Department for Toy Story, that film's video game and A Bugs Life. He later on worked with Lee McCaulla on Loose Tooth. He then worked as story artist on Over the Hedge. In 2006 after the production Over the Hedge he joined Sony Pictures Animation and worked a little on Open Season. In 2008 he directed Surf's Up along with Chris Buck.
According to commentary on the Toy Story 2 DVD, his license plate reads "LZTYBRN", the same as Al McWhiggin in that same movie. He studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts.
He also was one of the voices of the Filmmakers on Surf's Up.
He was recently put to direct the 2009 Australian feature film Russell.
