Note: The term Witchcraft in this form is meant to reflect the art or craft of Magic or Magick per Western nomenclature and use, not the religion or associated pre-Christian European beliefs. Some may find the term Atheist Magic more appealing and more accurate; however it is not the widely used term.

Atheist Witchcraft is the combination of Atheism and of Witchcraft. It is a lack of belief in a [deity] or deities, as well as the belief in a non-deity force. Some Atheist Witches call this force Nature, others the Universe, some have no name for it; however the common thread among these witches is that the unifying force is not believed to be a god. Unlike other forms of Witchcraft, they do not ‘call on’ this force to aid them, or hear them; instead they act upon the force to induce a reaction.

Not all Atheist Witches perform witchcraft, and may or may not believe in their own ability to influence the force(s) in which they believe. They may simple live their life in a state of awareness of those forces acting on the world around them.

It is not uncommon, among those that are not Atheist Witches, to view these terms as contradictory. This can be due to the point of view that atheism cannot believe in a supernatural force, cognizant or not; or it may be due to an opinion that witchcraft can not be performed without the aid of a deity.

Wiccan Atheism

Once specific example of Atheist Witchcraft is Wiccan Atheism, which is the general practice of the principles and tenets of Wicca, with the belief that the god and goddess are symbols and not entities/deities. Their focus is on the laws and guidelines set out in the Wiccan religion, rather than symbols and aid of the god/goddess.
