Athen Grey is an internationally known professional freelance photographer who specializes in celebrity, commercial advertising, editorial, fashion, fitness, physique, and fine art photography<!--interesting sort of "specialising", when one undertakes such a multitude of genres-->. He is based in Los Angeles, California.

Grey was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to a middle-class family that owned an architectural firm. His mother was a professional seamstress. He has one sister.

In 1991 he earned a BFA degree, with an emphasis on photography, art, and creative writing from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Soon after graduation Grey returned to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to join the corporate world, working for a number of Fortune 500 companies, where he photographed industrial products (such as transformers, spark plugs, tires, farm equipment, construction equipment, and gas/oil products) until 2002.

Grey began photographing model in 2002, and exploded into the fashion, athletic and muscle markets within a year. His current portfolio can be viewed at Athen Grey Imaging His first coffee table book, Male Perfection: Ripped, Shredded, and Muscular was published in November 2003.

In 2006 Grey tapped into the sarcastic side of his personality, creating a sensation on MySpace called Athen Grey - Sarcasm. Those blogs have taken on a life of their own and are now posted on the popular sarcasm.athengrey.com web site.
