The Atlanta Youth Choir is an integral part of The Atlanta Institute for Musicianship and Singing (AIMS). An active Board of Directors, made up of community leaders, music professionals, and parents works to guide and support the organization. Parents are encouraged to become involved through a variety of volunteer activities.
Operating costs are offset by singer tuition, individual donations
and corporate contributions. AIMS administers a partial tuition
waiver program to ensure that financial aid is available to
families who qualify. In order to promote and encourage its
students to continue music education and performance training after
high school, AIMS sponsors a college scholarship program.
The Atlanta Youth Choir (AYC) is an auditioned children's choral organization consisting of five distinct choirs, Cantori, Cantabile, Cantemus, Camerata, and Fraterna Musica. Vocal excellence, professionalism, and music education are the hallmarks of the Atlanta Youth Choir.
Participation in AYC provides Young Artists an opportunity to
develop musical skill, self discipline, confidence, and an
appreciation of excellence through a well-balanced program of
education and performance. All AYC choirs provide age and ability
appropriate instruction in efficient voice production and usage,
solfeggio, music reading, sight-singing, musical theory, and
collaborative artistry. Young Artists in AYC are afforded
professional level performance opportunities with prominent arts
organizations and local collegiate groups.
AYC is open to students in grades two through twelve; singers
represent over thirty-five public, private, parochial and home
schools in eleven metro Atlanta counties. Rehearsals are weekly
from September through May. Auditions are held from May through
August. AYC has performed regionally, nationally and
internationally.
