The Atlantic Coast Football League (ACFL) was a minor football league that operated from 1962 to 1973. Until 1969, many of its franchises had working agreements with NFL and AFL teams to serve as farm clubs. In 1965, three of the franchises joined with five teams from the United Football League to create the Continental Football League. After the Continental League folded, several of its teams joined the ACFL in 1970 (a few of them rejoining the league after several years), but most of the league's teams folded after the 1971 season. After suspending operations in 1972, the league returned (at least in name) for 1973, with six teams, only two of which were in the ACFL in 1971 and several new teams from regional leagues; some of the teams folded partway through the 1973 season, and with the World Football League set to begin play in 1974, the ACFL folded.

Joe Rosentover served as league president. He had served in the same capacity for the American Association from 1947 to 1950 (a relative, John Rosentover, had run the league from 1936 to 1947). In fact, several of the teams from the AA were revived in the ACFL, including the Providence Steam Roller, Newark Bears and the Paterson Miners (which, in the AA, were known as the Paterson Panthers).
