The Australian 1 cent coin was introduced in 1966 and was the least-valued Australian circulation coin until it was withdrawn from circulation in 1992 (along with the 2-cent piece), however it is still counted as legal tender[1].

The coins were then melted down to make bronze medals for the 2000 Summer Olympics[2].

The reverse side of the coin featured the image of a Feathertail Glider.
