is completely original. All areas, creatures, and objects used in
the game have been developed specifically for Avendar. 27

abilities. A system of "Houses" (Cabals) with varying purposes which player-characters
can join. The Houses are in constant struggle to possess magical
artifacts known as
The Stones of Power. Extensive development of the

the various humanoid races to a pantheon of 21 deities. Frequent
customized interactions and quests from gamemasters on the Avendar staff (known as
immortals) for player-characters with exceptional,
well-played roles. History of the Game
The development
of Avendar began in the fall of 1997, headed by Matt Wallace
("Ashur"), Brandon Downey ("Jolinn"), and Thane Williams ("Iandir")
with a handful of other veterans from
MUDs such as
The Carrionfields and
Darkmists. The game opened to the
public for beta-testing in January 1998, and has been in operation
ever since.
Since 2006, work has been underway to develop a new
codebase for Avendar, and the project has been tentatively titled
"Avendar 2.0".
