Avril Bandaids was officially founded on April 24th 2002, making it the very first Avril Lavigne fansite. The name 'Bandaids' is derived from the movie Almost Famous in which Kate Hudson makes it clear that she is not a groupie, but a Band-Aid. Ashley from Kingston, Ontario started Bandaids on Yahoo groups. Bandaids made the switch from Yahoo Groups to its current location after exceeding 2000 members. It is currently run by Sharifa Mohammed along with several other staff members.

On April 4th, 2003, less than a year after Bandaids was first founded, it was launched at its current home Avrilbandaids.com. In late 2003 Bandaids already had nearly 10,000 members.
