Awaydays is a 2009 English film directed by Pat Holden and stars Stephen Graham. It is based on the novel of the same name by Kevin Sampson.

Plot

Awaydays is filmed on the Wirral Peninsula. Set in the North West of England during the post-punk era, 'Awaydays' tells the story of Paul Carty – a 19-year-old who spends all his money on gigs, clubs, records and football.

At a gig he meets Elvis, who is part of a legendary gang known as The Pack, a firm attached to Tranmere Rovers F.C.. With their own unique, cool style – a style that’s at odds with the Boneheads they fight against. They dress themselves in Adidas Jackets and trainers, and arm themselves with Stanley Knives - The Pack have always impressed Carty. Now his new friend Elvis is offering him a way in.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack of Awaydays (released by the Universal Music Group) is pivotal to the film and comprises post-punk and electronic music, appropriate for the film's setting and atmosphere, especially focused on the music of Ultravox and Joy Division, according to writer Kevin Sampson.
