When only 10 years old he started cross-country skiing. Later in Lobenstein for schooling he changed in 1993 to Sports University in Oberhof. At 19 the international break-through arrived. Beside the professional sport Teichmann studies via correspondence at University in Hagen in electro-technology.
Teichmann was sick for a large part of the 2005/06 season and failed to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics, and due to the Germans selection criteria of either an Olympic medal or a top 10 finish in the World Cup, Teichmann, who won the overall World Cup in 2004/05 has resulted in him being left out of the German A-team for the 2006/07 season. Teichmann will still be able to compete, only he will receive less financing and won't train with the other elite members.[1]
In June 2006 Teichmann had leg surgery for an injury he had, but he was given a modified wheelchair while he recovered. The wheelchair was made with rollerskis, so that he could still train.[2]
He won silver with Tim Tscharnke in the Team Sprint at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Teichmann can speak German, English, some French.[3]
Like all German Nordic athletes, Teichmann is a sports soldier, meaning although he is employed by the military and receives a salary from them, he trains as a full time cross-country skier.
